In his remarks, Mr. Staal said, "This new funding underscores the United States' commitment to working with Ethiopia to prevent
this drought from becoming a humanitarian catastrophe."

With this announcement, the United States has provided nearly $705 million in humanitarian assistance since October 2014,
and continues to be the largest humanitarian donor to Ethiopia.

The U.S., in the press release issued by its embassy here on Friday, commended the other donors who have contributed
generously to the drought response.

It also urged others to join the ongoing international effort to address the drought's impacts and also protect hard-earned
development gains.
